4yr old Healthy Kids Check

The Healthy Kids 4 year old check-up is a positive health assessment of pre-school children across Australia. The aim of the check is to improve the health and well-being of Australian children and to promote the early detection of lifestyle risk factors, delayed development or illness and to provide an opportunity for early intervention strategies to ensure children are fit, healthy and ready to learn when they start school.

Topics covered in the check include height, weight, eyesight, hearing, allergies, oral health, behaviour, speech and toileting. It is also an excellent opportunity for parents/guardians to vocalise any questions or concerns they have regarding their child’s development.

The 4 year old check is performed by one of our experienced practice nurses once children have had their 4th birthday and is most commonly done in conjunction with their 4 year old immunisations. 3.5 year old health checks done by your local maternal health nurse are different, and do not affect eligibility for this check.

Please note: As at July 2011, if you receive Centrelink benefits for income support, the 4yr old Healthy Kids Check is a requirement by the Government in order to receive the $726 end-of-year Family Tax Benefit Part A supplement. Parents who are on income support must get their four year old children checked for health issues such as hearing or sight impairment before they start school.

Please speak with your GP or practice nurse for more information.
